Dear Anxiety – a poem

DEAR ANXIETY

Perhaps you’ve been
And may always
Be
In our midst
Like a breathtaking
Moment
Like a startling
Event
Like a shared
Dreaming
Like a shaky
Pavement
Like a swirling
Room

You start wars
And avoid them
You fuel fires
And quench them
Your unreasonable rule
Demands attention
Ignores ignorance
And spreads
From those
Who refuse
To acknowledge
Your name
Your presence
Your pointing out
Of cracks
In our
Collective soul

Anxiety
I see you
