Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” Matt 8:18:22

- Jesus escaped crowd
- Jesus aware of capacity
- Jesus willing to disappoint
- Jesus willing to withdraw
- Jesus calls on those close to Him to leave with him. Needing help.
- Scribe calls him teacher
- Scribe willing to follow wherever
- May have assumed Jesus had a mention of nice palace somewhere nearby.
- Foxes are beneath ground.
- Holes have warmth and safety at a low place.
- Best are high,lofty and safe.
- Both often out of sight.
- Both Are places of rest and birthing
- Son of man language may denote reference to Jesus human side
- Jesus may be intentionally putting the scribe off.
- Head can speak of government. Rest is temple language for abiding.
- Burying the nearly dead.
- Jesus looking for procrastination excuses
- Older parents. Could be a long time before really dead.
